"Lev Kuznetsov stressed that using the geographical and economic potential of Dagestan should be as actively involved in the implementation of the Strategy of development of seaports of the Russian Federation in the Caspian basin, as well as rail and road approaches up to 2030. He expressed confidence that in the context of enhancing the implementation of the project of transport corridor "North — South" Dagestan is a key, competitive advantages and on the other hand, the unique potential to become a leader in changing the situation in the Caspian sea", — stated in the message of press-service of the head of Dagestan.

However, Kuznetsov noted that the statistics of cargo turnover of Russian ports in General from year to year shows a negative trend in relation to all other pools.

"For the project we have natural conditions: ice-free port and the possibility of building a new port with the corresponding depths. And our task — to prepare already in compliance with the request of the Chairman of the Russian government a concrete plan of implementation of the strategy. I'm sure this is a very good basis for forming a source of economic development not only of Dagestan but of the whole of our North Caucasus," Kuznetsov was quoted by the press service of head of Dagestan.

The Minister recalled that the purpose and the main objective of this strategy is the integration of the Russian ports on the Caspian sea to the major transport nodes and corridors of international trade, forming a single transport hub in the Caspian basin.
