The Rosselkhoznadzor imposed a temporary ban on the importation of all plant products from Sri Lanka after the discovery of a dangerous bug in tea from South Asian countries. On 14 December, reported IA REGNUM in the press service of the Supervisory authority.

"In conducting the state quarantine phytosanitary control of the tea party in the amount of 18.1 tons origin Sri Lanka, in the packaging material was identified particularly dangerous quarantine for Russia object Kasprowy beetle (Trogoderma granarium Ev.), missing on the territory of the EEU", — said the Rosselkhoznadzor.

It is noted that Kasprowy beetle is one of the world's most dangerous polyphagous stored product pests of plant products. In Africa, there were cases when Kasprowy beetle has destroyed up to 70% of the stored products.

Estimates of the Rosselkhoznadzor, the losses from the introduction of this pest into the territory of Russia can be in the tens of billions of rubles. So, between 1987 and 1989 on the elimination of all foci two koprovogo beetle in Stavropol region it has been spent 6 million rubles, which at current prices is more than 416 million rubles.

"To prevent the introduction and spread on the territory of Russia of the specified quarantine facility, the Rosselkhoznadzor on December 18, imposed temporary restrictions on the import into Russia of all plant products origin Sri Lanka to negotiate and clarify the situation with the competent service of the country", — said the Agency.

Specifies that the batch of products from Sri Lanka shipped until 18 December and are in the route, can be admitted for import into the territory of Russia by results of laboratory tests.
