Zimbabwe plans to launch a three-year program to increase the corn harvest in the country to become self-sustaining and to cover domestic demand.
The programme is planned to expand sown area including irrigated and to harvest 2 million tons.
It is known that the cost of the project will be $500 million.
However, the country desperately needed corn, after all, with domestic consumption of 1.8 million tons/year, in the season 2014/15 corn production in the country amounted to only 742 thousand tons.
