Grain interventions on the National Mercantile exchange (NTB), started on 19 September. Only the exchange within the framework of state purchasing intervention on the grain market were sold 906 795 thousand tons of grain for a total amount of 8 billion 670,6 million rubles.

State intervention in the grain market held in Russia since 2001 and aimed at regulating prices. The state agent on carrying out of intervention in 2009 is the United grain company, a majority of whose shares belongs to the state.
