Sowing of winter crops for the harvest-2017 was completed at the end of October. Rainfall in the last few months has been above average, which facilitated the development of winter crops.
Despite the rich harvest of wheat in the current season, imports will remain approximately the same as last season – 895 thousand tons (-1%). 90% of the domestic demand for wheat is usually provided by imports because local wheat is of poor quality. The main supplier of wheat and wheat flour in Georgia is Russia.
In November, prices of wheat flour decreased by 2%, to November 2015. Prices are kept from further decline in the relatively high price of wheat in Russia.
