According to the forecast, the import of wheat in Algeria can be reduced to 8 million tons versus 8.2 million tons in 2016/17 season. This forecast due to the expected increase in domestic grain production due to improved weather conditions in the country.

Algerian farmers are planning to gather 2.7 million tons of grain, 700 thousand tons higher than last year, according to UkrAgroConsult.

The import of barley, analysts said USDA will be reduced even more substantially – up to 600 thousand tonnes in 2017/18 season against 900 tons in the current. The reason is as the crop growth and the increase in the VAT rate on the culture from 7% to 9%.
