IGC world grain production will fall by 3% in 2017/18 MG
The international Grains Council (IGC) published its first forecast of the global balance of production and consumption of grain in the season 2017/18

World grain production will decline up to 2050 million tons, up 3% compared with the record index of the current season. Wheat crop reduced to 735 million tonnes (754 million tonnes in the current season), maize – up to 1024 (1053) million tonnes.

High carryover stocks to compensate for the reduction in the grain production and the global offer will only be 1% less than in the current season.

World grain consumption will increase to record 2079 (2072) mln t, including wheat – up to 740 (737) million tons, corn – to 1044 (1038) million tonnes.

The grain trade is still quite active. The volume of trade is estimated at 340 (344) million tons, including wheat – 166 (169) million tons, corn – 137 (137) million tons compared to the current most notably season reduced imports in India (wheat) and China (barley and sorghum).

By the end of next season the world will be 484 million tons of grain. Stocks will be much lower than at the end of the current season (513 MT), but the second largest in history.
