The decrease was due to significantly lower yields than previously expected. In all of the major Federal districts it is lower than last year. In the Volga Federal district and in the South of the current yield of 9.6 t/ha and 20.6 t/ha, respectively, approximately 10% below last year, in the CFA – 20 C/ha, down by 13%. Conditions for development of sunflower and other late crops – corn, was imperfect. Probably, the yield was negatively affected by the lack of precipitation in August and sometimes in July.

Note that comparing the current average Russian yield of sunflower from can be disorienting. While it is slightly higher than last year (18.7 t/ha as opposed to 18.6 t/ha), although in the main regions of production inferior to her. This is due to the fact that in the past year, the harvesting in Siberia started earlier than usual. Productivity in the region is relatively low, which has lowered the average last year.

The decrease in the production of sunflower is expected in all the major FO, most notably in the Volga Federal district and Central Federal district.
