The August cyclone on territories of China and the related rivers level rise led not only to
emergency situation in the Far East, but also threatened Baikal omul population.
The fishes couldn't come in time into rivers for migration to traditional
spawning areas due to high water.
According to the senior research associate of the Baikal branch Gosrybtsentr Andrey
Bazov, conditions for omul spawning this year will be adverse, and level of
caviar survival – very low. Loss of caviar can make about 30%.
