A Federal judge refused to cancel the first trial in the country, defying the law "Ag-Gag" ("shut up, if you saw" the law abridging the freedom of speech in the sphere of agriculture), which criminalizes the undercover investigation in slaughterhouses and large farms.

District judge Robert Shelby ruled that the activists of the animal rights can continue the judicial process, aiming at the abolition of the law "Ag-Gag" in Utah. Activists argue that the law is designed to silence them to prevent to prevent cruel and unsafe treatment of animals on farms.

The judge's ruling shows that similar laws in six other States, are also vulnerable.

Lawyers believe that the activists intend to destroy the cattle industry. They argue that the law protects the right property and ensure the safety of those who secretly penetrates on the farm.

Lawyers of Utah persuaded the judge to dismiss the case, arguing that the plaintiffs initiated with the sole aim to challenge the law, and not because it prevented their actions.

One of the plaintiffs Utah, however, is the only person in the country, which will be charged in accordance with this law. Amy Meyer was charged last year after she was caught on video, as a front-end loader dropped a sick cow near suburban slaughterhouse in salt lake city. The charge was later dismissed because the defendant was in a public place, on a city street. My case shows that these laws "Ag-Gag" can be used to intimidate law-abiding people, "she said after the hearing.

The Utah law prohibits secret penetration and photo/video on farms. It was adopted in 2012, similar measures were considered in half of all States. The law in Idaho is also challenged in court.

The animal protection organisations argue that the law criminalize investigation such as investigation of the organization Humane Society in 2007 in California, which led to the largest recall of meat in U.S. history.
