"Corn is one of the symbols of Moldova along with white stork, vine and bunch of grapes. She is the Queen of our fields, it is present in many foods our table. She is truly the pride of our region", - said at the opening of the first in the history of Moldova Festival corn Minister of agriculture and food industry Vasile Bumacov.

"Corn is not only our traditional Hominy. It is present in almost all products of our table: we rejoice in the healthy color of egg yolks, delicate taste of poultry, pork, beef based food which is corn. Already quite rapidly growing production of ethanol and biomass from waste. In General, figuratively speaking, corn is our everything! So we decided to establish an annual celebration of this culture and at the premiere of his to beat Romanian record and produce the greatest Hominy in the world - weighing more than 500 pounds", - told reporters Bumacov.

It is symbolic that the date of the Festival of the corn coincided with the 40th anniversary of the Institute of plant breeding "PORUMBENI", which is famous not only at home but abroad bred hybrid varieties of this crop, seeds are purchased by Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan.

"And I am sure that very soon our hybrids will be in demand in European countries. We proposed that the European Commission several varieties developed by scientists of the Institute of hybrids. Waiting for the decision, in appreciation of which I have no doubt", - said the Director of the Institute of plant breeding "PORUMBENI" Pintilie Parwan.

And while many guests of the celebration were admiring the crafts folk craftsmen, enjoyed the performances of creative collectives, Criuleni district, met with the foreign agricultural machinery and other related elements of the industry to the deployed immediately on the Institute's experimental fields of the exhibition, specialists of the cooperative College, headed by teacher by the name of Antonina cooked in specially prepared for this occasion a huge bowl champion Hominy.

And they did: the record for the Romanian giant Hominy weighing 400 pounds beaten - Moldovan Hominy pulled on 534 kg, which was used 380 liters of pure filtered water, 154 kg corn flour, 4 kg of salt and 3 kg of butter. Not to mention that flour made dishes were local, Criuleni production.

But what Hominy without ripture (pork stir-frying), cheese and a good glass of Moldovan wine? All this was enough for guests who appreciated the work of chefs.
