Federal customs service (FCS) has proposed to introduce criminal penalties for the importation into Russia of products from the sanctions list. The draft document appeared on the Federal portal of regulations.

Customs officers propose to assign sanctions products in category of strategically important, and their importation to qualify under article 226 of the criminal code (smuggling of virulent, toxic, poisonous, explosive, radioactive and other substances, as well as weapons).

Violators of this article of the criminal code could face penalties of up to seven years imprisonment. If the crime is committed with abuse of official position or violence, the offender faces up to 10 years in prison, and participation in organized community guarantees 12 years behind bars.

TCF propose to introduce such a provision by 2016.

As you know, in August 2014, Russia in response to sanctions that some Western countries have imposed on officials and businessmen from the entourage of Vladimir Putin banned the import of products from these countries. In the summer of 2015 mode of the contracti was extended for another year, and the list of the countries hit by the Russian sanctions, has expanded. Since the beginning of August in the country decided to destroy the products smuggled to bypass sanctions to prevent their implementation in Russia.

According to Rosselkhoznadzor, on August 6, on the borders destroyed about 600 tons of food.
