The UK has signed a deal worth 100 million pounds ($151 million) for the export of barley to China in the next five years, planning to capitalize on the growing premium beer market, said the British Minister.

The agreement for the supply of 750,000 tons of barley is the first, in which great Britain received permission to export grain to China, said Elizabeth Tracks the Minister for environment, food and rural Affairs in the UK.

China is a huge market for barley and the largest beer market in the world, so for British firms there are many opportunities, the Minister said in Shanghai where he is promoting the export of British food and drink in China.

Britain lobbied for the strengthening of trade relations with the second largest economy in the world, having signed deals worth 40 billion pounds last month in the sectors, from cruise ships to nuclear energy.
