In 1767 in Yakutia from the Irkutsk region by special decree of Catherine II arrived the first seed potatoes. Since then, the "second bread" and started to grow on the fields of the Republic, said the Chairman of Union of vegetable and potato growers of the Republic Valery Fomin.

In this regard, farmers Yakutia next year will organize a rally Irkutsk-Yakutsk with the conditional name "the Way of the potato in Yakutia". In addition, it is planned to erect a monument to the vegetable in the capital of the Republic.

"Potatoes are our second bread. And we in gratitude I want to put a monument to him. The sketch is ready, but not yet approved. The place where it will be installed, also not yet defined", — said Valery Fomin.
