The main supplier of avocados in Europe – Peru – will redirect its shipments to the U.S. due to a poor crop in Mexico. USA is a major consumer of avocados. Due to bad weather the harvest avocados in California decreased by 50-60%, while shipments from Mexico, the main importer of avocados in the United States – should decrease by 20%, said the representative of the Spanish distributor avocado Reyes Gutiérrez Oscar Martinez.

In Mexico a bad year coincided with the bad weather, which led to a sharp increase in prices. Prices for Mexican Hass avocados has grown more than twice since the beginning of the year, now the cost of one box of avocados for 10 kg is 550 pesos ($26).

At the same time, there is a growing demand for avocados in Europe against the background of the trend towards healthy eating, while imports to China rose by 250%.
