The government will submit to the President proposals on the extension of measures on sanctions the European Union until 31 December 2018, said Thursday Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.
"We will react adequately. So yesterday we discussed this issue with the President. The government will submit proposals to the President about how to extend the retaliatory measures by one year, until 31 December 2018", — said Medvedev at a government meeting.
The response to the extension of EU sanctions are imposed to protect national interests and support industries, writes "RIA Novosti" with reference to the words of the Russian Prime Minister.
"We have to take this step and in order to protect their national interests, but also to support a very important sector of our economy. Since introducing retaliatory measures, we support the Russian agricultural sector. And farmers have repeatedly asked us for the extension of such measures, and to outline the perspective of how they will act in the near future", — said Medvedev.
He also expressed hope that Russian producers will be able to take advantage of the extension response in full.
