Rosselkhoznadzor banned the import to Russia of 25 tons of Egyptian oranges due to the discovery in them of quarantine object — the Mediterranean fruit fly.

"In the sea port of Novorossiysk during inspection the party of oranges weighing over 25 tons, arrived from Egypt, the Rosselkhoznadzor administration for Krasnodar Krai and Republic of Adygea were detected in the living state quarantine object — the Mediterranean fruit fly", — stated in the message Rosselkhoznadzor.

In accordance with the rules and regulations of quarantine import to Russia the party of oranges was prohibited.

Mediterranean fruit fly belongs to the group of the most dangerous and harmful species that damage the fruits of apricot, apples, plums, cherries, tomatoes, and more than 200 species of other plants.
