"In connection with the appearance on the territory of several regions of the Russian Federation foci of highly pathogenic avian influenza the Director General for health and food safety European Commission introduced temporary restrictions on supplies to the EU from all enterprises operating on the territory of the Russian Federation the following kinds of products: poultry meat, semi-finished products from poultry meat", — the document says.

In addition, the restrictions relating to products made of poultry meat, is not affected by the treatments, and unprocessed animal by-products consisting of, or containing materials derived from poultry.

According to the world health organization, avian influenza is an infectious viral disease of birds, often occurring without any obvious signs or symptoms. In some cases, the virus may overcome the species barrier and cause disease or asymptomatic infections in humans and animals.
