Volgograd farmers to increase chickpea crops.
Questions of technology of cultivation and breeding of chickpea was the center of attention of the participants of "field Day", which took place in Elancecom area. It was attended by about 300 farmers and scientists in southern Russia.

Volgograd scientists half a century ago started breeding chickpea. At the forefront of this trend was the doctor of agricultural Sciences, Professor of Department of plant growing, breeding and seed production, Volga Vasily Balashov. Since then, local breeders, that is, set the tone in breeding new chickpea varieties, which to date has 135. Use of the latest achievements of agricultural science is today regarded by regional authorities as one of the conditions for the development of agriculture. Today to Volgograd farmers is an important task: to bring the region's leaders in the field of agriculture.

 

As reported to IA "Novostiworld.ru" in regional Committee on agriculture, new cultivation technology and the progress of selection was discussed by the participants of "field Day" held at MAKS, OOO Agroholding "Sodruzhestvo-region".

- Conduct regional and inter-regional "field Days" gives the opportunity to evaluate the newest technologies of agricultural production and to exchange experience, — said the Vice – Governor-Chairman of Committee of agriculture of the Volgograd region Vasily Ivanov. — Chickpea is a popular export crop, the implementation of which allows to attract funds to the region's economy. Today, one of the tasks set by the Governor, the development of foreign trade, the increase in the supply of grain to foreign markets.

Grown on Volgograd fields chickpeas comes Iran, Turkey, Azerbaijan and other Eastern countries where it is an essential feature of local cuisine, such as rice in South-East Asia. Grow and the area occupied in the Volgograd region "Turkish" peas also known as chickpeas: in 2017, they were employed to 127.2 thousand hectares, and in 2018 already 187,7 thousand hectares. And 98% of the seeds refers to Volgograd breeding.

The participants visited demonstration fields sown with chickpea, learned the intricacies of the technology of its cultivation, strengthened business contacts.
