Egypt is the second largest buyer of Russian wheat in the world after Turkey. According to "Centre for grain quality assessment", in 2016 and 2017 crop year (July 1, 2016) as of January 9 grain exports to Egypt amounted to 3,436 million tons.

At the same time in 2016 between the two countries were disputes on the supply of wheat because of the demands the Egyptian authorities to zero the contents of the ergot in wheat.
