Drought in East Africa has led to a rise in grain prices
Drought in East Africa triggered a sharp rise in the prices of maize and sorghum, which can lead to hunger, says FAO
A record level of prices of staple crops recorded in Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Uganda and Tanzania.
Particularly high prices have risen in South Sudan, which grew by 200-400% compared to last year. In Kenya the price of maize increased by one third. And in Somalia, the drought has reduced the production of maize and sorghum by 75%, which led to the starvation of the population in the country.
