ABARE: Australian wheat production will fall by 34%

Compared to the record season 2016/17 wheat production will decrease by 34%.

The wheat crops in producing regions of Australia have suffered greatly because of the prolonged drought. Many regions received less than half of the summer (Australian winter) rainfall. Wheat harvest should begin in a few weeks.

Particularly affected the East coast, which grows high-protein wheat - New South Wales and Queensland, where production could fall by 45%.

A new forecast from ABARE may exacerbate concerns about the global supply of high quality wheat.

Also according to forecasts by ABARE in the 2017/18 season will reduce the production of rapeseed-canola-from 3.69 million tonnes last year to 2.75 million tonnes.
