Genetically modified phosphorescent sheep born in Uruguay
Their only visible specificity is to be phosphorescent when they are placed under an ultraviolet light, because of the introduction into their DNA of gene of a jellyfish

- A group of Uruguyan scientists, in partnership with the Institute Pasteur of Montevideo, announced Wednesday, April 24 the birth of phosphorescent genetically modified sheep.
- “The transgenesis on this species was not available in Latin America and this success positions Uruguay with the more world scientific high level”, are happiness the Institute of Uruguay animal breeding (IRAUy) and the Institute Pasteur in an official statement.
- The operation does not have an aim in itself, if is not to check the effectiveness of the method of introduction of a foreign gene into the DNA of these animals.
