Ban on import of Ukrainian dairy products industry is explained by the repeated revealing in them of the "residues of banned and harmful substances, including residual amounts of antibiotics of tetracycline group, salts of heavy metals, microorganisms, including pathogenic". Also earlier it was repeatedly reported about the insecurity of the Ukrainian cheese products that can be manufactured with the use of palm fat unknown quality and origin.

It should be noted that the Rosselkhoznadzor previously warned that it would have to limit the supply of food from Ukraine, if Kiev fails to bring the products in line with the requirements of the Customs Union to the import of European products to the ratification of the agreement on accession to the EU.

Prior to this they had introduced a ban on imports to Russia of cheeses with 13 factories of Ukraine, potatoes from all the enterprises of the country because of the pest - Golden nematode, and pork because of the threat of the spread of African swine fever. Also limited supplies of confectionery company Roshen with Ukrainian factories due to concerns about the quality and safety of products.

According to the Federal customs service, import of food products (excluding beverages) to Russia from Ukraine from the beginning of 2014-June in monetary terms reached USD 495 million, in natural terms - almost 230 thousand tons.

While dairy products for the six months 2014 became the main commodity group in the structure of import of Ukrainian goods to Russia is the supply volume of this category exceeded 106 million dollars in cost expression. Other major commodity group - chocolate and other products containing cocoa ($63 million), fruit juices ($21.5 million) and canned vegetables (20.5 million U.S. dollars).
