The agricultural market in the EU continues to incur losses in connection with the food embargo of the Russian Federation. This was stated by the European Commissioner for agriculture Phil Hogan on the results of the EU Council at the level of Ministers of agriculture and fisheries of the European community.

"The three sectors of the agricultural market continue to suffer in the food embargo RF: fruit and vegetables, dairy products and pork. There are support measures, but they do not always solve the problem," he said.

According to the Commissioner, to overcome the consequences of the embargo should be applied a dual approach. "It is both an emergency package and access to new global markets", - said Hogan.

Russia entered August 7, 2014 the package of measures on sanctions the United States, Australia, Canada, European Union and Norway, put them in the crisis in Ukraine. Countermeasures are a ban for a period of one year for import to Russia from these countries fruits, vegetables, dairy and meat products. Under the restriction does not include some types of finished meat products (except sausages) and fish.

The government of the Russian Federation on 20 August was excluded from the list of products concentrates of vegetable and animal protein, sports nutrition, lactose free milk, dietary supplements and vitamin-mineral complexes. Was also lifted the ban on import of seed potatoes, smolts (fry for aquaculture), pearl onion, sugar hybrid corn and peas for sowing.

The EC, since August 17, allocated 33 million in support of market peaches and nectarines, 125 million to help producers of perishable fruits and vegetables, targeted support to farmers for storing butter, dry milk and cheese, as well as € 30 million for programs to promote European agricultural products.

It is already September 10 were suspended payments on vegetables and fruits, and September 24 compensation for producers of dairy products and cheeses. The reason is that the funds were almost completely consumed, despite the fact that only a small number of producers (estimated agricultural associations of the EU - not more than 5%), affected by the Russian embargo was able to get them.

However, in December, the EC announced that until June 2015 will provide emergency assistance to producers of fruits and vegetables that have suffered from the Russian countermeasures. Support will be aimed, in particular, on the withdrawal from the market of fruits and vegetables in certain EU countries, so they do not put pressure on prices throughout the community, says the EC.

She estimates that the Russian embargo has affected 4.2% of total exports 28 EU countries for a total amount of 5 billion euros.
