5 years on Sakhalin planned to build 11 plants for reproduction of salmon. Now the area is the absolute leader in the country for reproduction of salmon. It produces about 80% of all juvenile salmonids in Russia.

During the working trip to Sakhalin Minister of agriculture Nikolai Fyodorov, Governor Alexander Khoroshavin said in an interview today that there is a 41 hatchery. 11 enterprises is artificial reproduction of livestock, on the other - the state does business. Annual plants produce up to 850 million juveniles, according to Interfax - Russia.

According to the Governor, this year, the fishermen caught 750 thousand tons of water bioresources. 95% of the catch is processed Sakhalin enterprises. In 2014, fish exports fell sharply, the regional authorities are working towards increasing the share of Sakhalin fish products on the Russian market.

The Minister of agriculture of the Russian Federation Nikolay Fedorov visited salmon hatchery plant Fry, built in 1933. Enterprise Minister got acquainted with the process of reproduction of chum salmon, coho salmon and sturgeon. Also during the visit to the island Fedorov visited the greenhouse and livestock complexes, held a meeting on the development of the fishing industry of the Sakhalin region and promised to support projects for the development of agriculture in Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands.
