The Minister of agriculture of Pakistan, Dr. Farrukh Javed said that Pakistan can export up to one million tons of potatoes, because received a good harvest this crop, according to ftimes.ru.

About 32 thousand tons of potatoes already exported: Russia - 641,7 tons, Malaysia - 88,3, Bahrain - 173, Sri Lanka - 117,3, United Arab Emirates - to 89.5 tons.

This statement the Minister made at the meeting related to the export of potatoes 9 March 2015. Farrukh Javed said that growers in Punjab received a record harvest and total production amounted to about 3.7 million tons, up 35% over last year's harvest. Now Pakistanis, according to the Minister, will seek to reach 4 million tons.

The Minister asked the Department of plant protection of Pakistan to assist farmers in obtaining certificates of quality control, so that local producers can send their products for export.

Dr. Farrukh Javed said that the producers of the region demanded to support the prices of potatoes, otherwise they will have to bear huge losses in the local market due to the large harvest. That is why the government decided to export all the potatoes at once. The Minister said that the government has been promoting local potato producers in obtaining orders from the international market.
