The UN appealed to the countries and private donors to urgently allocate 111 million dollars for the financing of humanitarian operations in North Korea in 2015. As noted in the press release of the UN office for the coordination of humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the funds will go to programmes in the fields of food, agriculture, health, water and sanitation.

"The UN is urgently required 111 million dollars for the financing of humanitarian operations in the Democratic people's Republic in 2015", - said in OCHA. According to the UN, from 24.6 million people in the country about 70%, or 18 million "deprived of access to sufficient and varied diet that would allow them to maintain health." As reported in humanitarian management, chronic malnutrition, provoking delays in the development, suffer 27.9% of children under five years old. Of these, 4% are "severely depleted", according to the results of a 2012 study conducted by the world health organization (who).

"Malnutrition is a major cause of maternal and infant mortality and diseases. Services in the field of health care is insufficient in many areas there is a lack of basic facilities, equipment, or drugs. The availability of clean normal water and sanitation is a fundamental problem that leads to a high incidence of diarrhea, including chronic, respiratory diseases and diseases transmitted through water", - stated in a press release. In OCHA also drew attention to serious problems in agriculture of the DPRK, due to lack of seeds and fertilizers, as well as frequent natural disasters such as floods.

For funding programs in these key areas of concern will be invested, which asks to select the UN. The money will be distributed by the world food programme, the UN Children's Fund, world health organization, United Nations Fund population Fund and the Food and agriculture organization.

"It is vital that donors responded quickly to our call and allowed the agencies to respond to the humanitarian situation", - said the UN resident coordinator in the DPRK goolam ISCSI. According to him, the humanitarian needs of people in the country should not become a victim of "political considerations". He urged "to ensure minimum living conditions of the most vulnerable people, especially women, children and the elderly".

UN for several years has sounded the alarm about the dire humanitarian situation in the DPRK. Created by the UN Commission to investigate human rights violations in the DPRK argues that the food crisis in the country is artificial and is used by Pyongyang as a means of control over citizens. The North Korean authorities deny all these accusations, calling them a fabrication.
