At the end of August the number of cattle in all types of Russian farms was 19.7 million head, which is 2.1% less than in the same period last year, from it cows - 8.4 million heads (of-2.1%). The number of pigs increased by 5.3% to 23.3 million, sheep and goats decreased by 1%, to 27 million.

The farming population accounted for 44.3% in the structure of the cattle population, 16.6% of the pigs, 46.3% in sheep and goats (at the end of August 2015 - 45,6%, 18,4% and 46.1%, respectively). The production of livestock and poultry for slaughter in January-November in all categories of farms increased by 5.2% to 8.3 million tonnes (live weight), in August - to 3.5%, to 1 million tons.

Milk production for the first eight months of 2016, in annual terms decreased by 0.5% and amounted to 21.4 million tons in August, production decreased by 2%, to 3 million tons. Egg production in January-August rose by 1.9% to 29.4 billion pieces, in August - by 0.8%, to 3.8 billion pieces.

In January-August 2016 the Russian bakers have produced 4 412 thousand tonnes of bread and bakery products, which is 3% lower than the same period last year, according to Rosstat.
