This opinion was expressed by Deputy head of the Federal Antimonopoly service (FAS) Andrey Tsyganov.

"I think not (will not cause rising prices - ed.) Egypt is not the largest potato country in the world, and import it in Russia is rather limited in quantitative scope", — said Andrei Tsyganov on the sidelines of the "Week of competition in Russia".

According to him, the restrictions imposed by the Rosselkhoznadzor, is quite justified.

"They are associated with certain diseases and with those faults which potatoes are present. It is normal practice", — said the Deputy head of the service.

The Rosselkhoznadzor from September 22, introduced temporary restrictions on the import of vegetables and fruits from Egypt. It expressed concern at the systematic violations of international and Russian phytosanitary requirements to quarantine products are imported from Egypt to Russia. Since the government did not take appropriate measures to remedy the situation, the service decided to impose restrictions.

However, the results of the negotiations between the Rosselkhoznadzor and the representatives of Egypt, the office has decided to cancel restrictions on the import of Egyptian plant products except potatoes. The question of lifting the ban on the import of this culture will be addressed later this fall.
