Russian authorities are discussing the possibility of labeling products to indicate their degree of usefulness, said in an interview with the newspaper "Arguments and facts" special representative of the President on matters of environmental activities, environment and transport Sergei Ivanov.
 

"I will share with you an idea that is already being discussed. Is the food tasty but not healthy. Here, too, to prohibit anything not necessary, but they can be marked "traffic light". Red – eat, if you like, but bear in mind that after some time will, for example, fat. The yellow is more or less useful. Green – highest quality and environmentally friendly products", — said Ivanov.

He stressed that the authorities "shall inform the people and give them the right of choice."

Earlier, a similar initiative was announced by the representative of Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova.

"We offer a new approach to food labelling – color display. Healthy foods green, moderate – yellow, red when the product is high in sugar, salt, or contains only substitutes. We are ready to proceed with the development of such a bill", she said, speaking at the Presidium of the Federation Council.

Anna Popova also said that such measures will enable consumers to make a choice thanks to a better awareness of the quality of the product.
