Russia has sent in the dispute settlement body of the world trade organization (WTO) and the government of Ukraine's request for consultations in connection with the continuous implementation from 2014, restrictions, prohibitions, special requirements and procedures with respect to Russian goods, services and persons on the Ukrainian market, as well as in respect of transit through Ukraine.

In particular, we are talking about bans on imports of Russian meat and dairy products, fish, alcoholic beverages, equipment for Railways, fertilizers and many other products.

The WTO confirmed the receipt of a request from Russia, said the representative of the organization. "I can confirm that late in the evening of 19 may, WTO received a request from Russia for consultations with Ukraine with respect to various measures", – reported in the WTO.

In accordance with the procedure request this week will be circulated to all WTO members. "According to the rules on WTO dispute settlement, both parties will meet together to discuss the concerns of the Russian Federation. If the parties cannot find a mutually acceptable solution within 60 days, Russia has the right to request the establishment of panels of arbitrators for their dispute", – concluded the representative of the WTO.

According to the WTO rules, requesting consultations is the first step in filing a lawsuit in the framework of this organization. In accordance with the procedures of the WTO, now within two months should be consulted with the government of Ukraine with the aim of finding a mutually acceptable resolution of the situation.
