Rosstat reported about the rise in price of almost 10% of the minimum food basket in Russia for the period from January to may, the growth amounted to more than 4 thousand rubles and due to increase in the cost of vegetable production.

According to Rosstat, the highest growth was recorded in April and may, as during the period from January to April increased by only 5%. Industry experts say that the rising cost of consumer basket is dictated by the increase in the prices of vegetable products — for some items, prices grew by 80%.

Experts also believe that this situation will not last long, as in July, consumers will be able to buy the products fresh crop at a respectively lower price. Manufacturers predict that vegetable prices can and do fall below cost.

According to the statistics of may, the cost of the minimum set of food products per month in Russia on average at the end of may 2017 amounted to 4036 rubles. In comparison with the previous month, the growth amounted to 4.2% and from the beginning of the year – by 9.4%. According to Rosstat, inflation in Russia for the period from January to may was 1.7%.
