According to the Deputy Director of the Institute for agricultural market studies (IKAR) Irina Glazunov, the price increase is due to a lack of quality rice for cereals production. "Last summer, the weather in the South were unfavorable to the crops of rice, therefore, the proportion of high quality raw sugar was low", she said.

On the world market there is a jump of quotations of the largest producers of rice from Asia, also said Glazunov. The export price of Vietnamese rice rose to $ 410 per ton in the second half of June from $ 349 at the end of March. Against this background there is a growing demand from major customers: Bangladesh, Philippines, Iran, Iraq and African countries.

"This factor also has the potential to affect the price dynamics of the Russian market of rice, because Russia not only exports but also imports rice", — believes Deputy General Director of IKAR.

On 21 June, the agriculture Ministry said that it expects rising prices for buckwheat. Harvest in 2017 is expected to reach last year.

According to Rosstat, the stocks of rice on June 1 amounted to 36 thousand tons that is twice less than a year ago.
