Changes in the legislation governing aquaculture. Federal law passed by the State Duma on 23 June 2017 and approved by the Federation Council on 28 June 2017. 1 July 2017 the President of the Russian Federation signed the Federal law "On amendments to certain legislative acts of the Russian Federation on improving of relations in the field of aquaculture (fish farming)".

Federal law establishes features of implementation of such agricultural activities as commercial aquaculture (commercial fish farming).

One of such peculiarities is the possibility of implementation of pond and other types of commercial aquaculture on agricultural lands and forest lands.

On the lands of these categories allowed the establishment of aquaculture infrastructure, including the construction of ponds (including the formed water retaining structures on watercourses).

This establishes that the right of ownership to land plots on which to build appropriate ponds, conserved, except for the cases established by the legislation of the Russian Federation.

In addition, the law defines the peculiarities of the turnover of land and within its boundaries of water objects used in the implementation of commercial aquaculture.

In particular, it is envisaged that contractual obligations and other relations associated with the turnover of ponds (including the formed water retaining structures for water flows) used in the implementation of pond aquaculture, are determined in accordance with the water, civil and land legislation.

The changes are designed to eliminate gaps and ambiguities in the legal regulation of the land and other relations arising in the field of commercial aquaculture.
