Fish farms in the Astrakhan region in 2017 will produce at least 14 tons of caviar last year against 12 tons, said the Minister of agriculture and fisheries of the region Alexey Galkin.

"Predictable, not less than 14 tons of caviar by year-end. Last year was about 12 tons", — said Galkin, noting that the increase was due to growth, the "aging out" of sturgeon.

He added that with the increase in the volume of caviar decreases the cost. "She (black caviar – ed.) very strongly fell in the last five years. If earlier it cost 36 to 40 thousand rubles per kilogram, now eggs can be easily bought over 29 to 31 thousand rubles, which is even retail price. In dollar terms, it fell probably more than twice", — said Galkin.
