New rules mean a reduction in the number of permitted fishing gear, shorter fishing season and increase the minimum size allowed to catch animals. Tightening of the fishery due to reduced populations and stocks of lobsters in territorial waters of the country.

"The lobster fishery on the West coast for many people, as professional fishermen and fans of active rest, 'said Martin Rydgren of the SwAM, — This was evident in the responses received by the Authority during the period of work on new rules. We feel that among the public there is an understanding that the necessary measures to restore and strengthen lobster stocks".

After the referral period SwAM analyzed the opinions of the public and came to the conclusion that the new rules are necessary.

"This is the first step in the process of rebuilding lobster stocks. In collaboration with researchers from the Swedish University of agricultural Sciences, we will monitor the effects of the changes that were made to ensure that measures to manage the resource had the intended effect. If necessary, they can be changed or cancelled", — said Martin Rydgren.
