Production of greenhouse vegetables in Russia in the last few years shows stable growth. In 2017, the gross harvest of greenhouse vegetables amounted to 952,6 thousand tons, which is 17% higher than in 2016 (813, 6 thousand tons) and 34.2% higher than in 2015 (709,8 thousand tons).

Greenhouse farming is one of the priorities of the state policy in agriculture, especially in the active process of import substitution. For three years the import of vegetables decreased by more than half, from 2.4 million tons in 2014 to 1.1 million tons in 2016.

To stimulate investment activity in this direction, the government implemented a range of measures among which the compensation of the incurred expenditure on the construction of new greenhouses with modern technologies of vegetable production. The subsidy is 20% (25% for far Eastern Federal district) of the amount of costs incurred. For the period 2015-2017 the Board of agriculture selected 56 investment projects with a total area 439,7 ha, the amount of investment amounted to about 69 billion rubles.

The construction and modernization of greenhouses farmers in 2017 was able to get preferential loans at a rate not exceeding 5% per annum. Preferential loans in 2017 for a total amount of 106 billion (23% of the total amount issued to farmers soft loans) allowed to start the construction of 50 of a greenhouse complex with a total area of over 650 hectares. After the commissioning of these modern greenhouses production of greenhouse vegetables will increase to 480 thousand tons annually.

While maintaining the momentum of development of domestic growers will be able by 2020 to meet the needs of the population with greenhouse vegetables of the Russian production.

By the end of 2017 put into operation of the order of 251 hectares of new greenhouses, so the total area of winter greenhouses increased by 11.7%. Commissioning of the new greenhouse of the fifth generation are built using the latest technology and not inferior to the best foreign analogues. Due to this, the yields in winter greenhouses reaches a record level of 60 kg/sq. m. Also in the whole country the average yield of greenhouses is steadily increasing. By the end of 2017 amounted to 34 kg/sq m, which is 33% higher than in 2011 (27.1 kg/sq m).

Leaders in the production of greenhouse vegetables in agricultural organizations among the subjects of the Russian Federation became the Krasnodar region – 85 thousand tonnes, Stavropol Krai – 65.2 thousand tonnes, Tatarstan – 46,2 thousand tons, Bashkiria – 40,1 thousand tons, and Lipetsk oblast is 37.6 thousand tons.
