According to the updated forecasts of analysts of the global Association of manufacturers of pears and apples (WAPA), in 2018 Apple harvest in New Zealand may indeed exceed the record results at least 10 years. According to preliminary forecasts, this season, the gross yield of these fruits in the country will amount to 564 thousand tonnes, 11% higher than a year earlier.

However, as noted by the representatives of the Association of new Zealand growers New Zealand Apples & Pears, local producers intend to further increase the harvest of apples. So, in 2018, the area under this crop has increased in the country by 3%. Moreover, farmers and varietal change the structure of production taking into account trends in the external market. So, if in 2005 the varieties Royal Gala and Braeburn made up 77% of the total crop, at the moment, their share declined to 40%. At the same time, significantly increased the proportion of varieties such as Jazz, Envy and Pacific.
