Uzbekistan overtook Spain in terms of exports of cherries and is among the world leaders.
Due to the active expansion of the area under cherries in 2013-2017, Uzbekistan could significantly increase the export of these fruits, and got out on a pure fourth place in the world, ahead of Spain.

In 2017, according to analysts EastFruit, Uzbekistan exported about 32 thousand tons of cherries, which is 5 thousand tons more than Spain. In 2018, according to preliminary estimates EastFruit, the volume of exports of cherries can grow up to 36 to 38 thousand tons.

Five years ago, export sweet cherries from Uzbekistan did not exceed 5 thousand tons per year, however, in 2016-2017 the volume of exports rose sharply. This is a huge achievement when you consider that the quality of Uzbek cherries, as the final product, measured from the point of view of the market remains low.

Uzbekistan still sells 99.5% of products in Russia and Kazakhstan, which is a huge problem from the point of view of possibilities of development of this business. Because in other countries the Uzbek products is almost no demand, despite the good taste. Therefore, all attempts to diversify exports remain relatively unsuccessful. The main problem of the Uzbek cherry is the diversity of varieties, mainly small caliber, due to obsolete technologies of growing, lack of sorting of cherries, due to problems with the refrigeration technology and packaging. There are many issues and product safety owing to the wide use of various means of protection of plants in gardens, often with unproven efficacy and unknown origin.

Not conducive to effectively export and market regulation: the need for 100% payment for exported goods in order to be able to arrange shipping, minimum prices for products, attempts of monopolization of exports through inefficient state and quasi-state structure, and more.

However, the most serious problem is the ineffective marketing of products. Uzbek companies participate in international exhibitions and advertise their products, often do not respond to customer questions via telephone or email, and their websitesoften don't work. Naturally, this affects the image of all suppliers from Uzbekistan.

Nevertheless, Uzbek cherry has the largest capacity in the world. With great difficulty the small volumes of cherries from this country are shipped to South Korea. In 2018, the first batch arrived in China. If you choose the right varieties and technology, Uzbek cherries can find a niche in the markets of the EU countries, because it appears early Turkish.

Meanwhile, the main advantage of Uzbek cherry is a very low price, however, with time, hopefully, it will value and quality. However, even with such low quality Uzbekistan has already begun to have a significant negative impact on the supply of products from Turkey to the Russian market.
