The first results of the analysis of the genome, confirming the identity of genotypes that indirectly indicates the possibility of transfer of ASF in Belgium through the "human factor". However, there is no confirmed hypothesis, which would indicate how the virus got to Western Europe.

The Belgian veterinary services at the moment have confirmed five new cases of the disease. Like the previous one, they appeared in the southern part of the country near the Franco-Belgian border, however, unlike the previous cases, they are significantly more distracted.

More than 4000 pigs will be killed in connection with the risk of spreading the virus, reported by the Belgian Agency for food safety (Afsca). The slaughter and disposal of animals would be held in 58 farms in the South of the country. Established quarantine zone with a total area of 384 sq. km. is prohibited hunting of wild boars to prevent their going beyond the infected areas and a ban on movement and sale of pigs beyond the boundaries of established zone.

The first cases of ASF in Belgium was reported in mid-September. So far in the country they are already confirmed 14. The appearance of the disease in this part of Europe affected the pork market, the EU - 13 countries refused to import Belgian meat.
