This year wheat crops have been affected by adverse weather. Gross harvest and yield of grain is expected to be much below average levels. French farmers were convinced that the wheat quality will also be low. However, the check of quality for the harvested grain showed that there are two zones in which the characteristics of wheat are very different from each other.

In the West wheat has high protein and test weights. Its quality satisfies requirements of importers, and exports through the Atlantic ports in the current season is forecasted at the level not lower than normal. However, the quality of wheat in the areas adjacent to the main export port of Rouen, is more heterogeneous.

The wheat is gathered in the North-East of the country, has an unprecedented quality: very low test weights and higher protein content. The value of this wheat for different users of the market should be determined during the next few weeks.
