The pace of wheat imports to South Africa are much lower than usual

51,9 thousand MT of wheat was delivered from Russia, 38.3 thousand tons – from Argentina, 25.6 thousand tonnes – from Poland, 20.0 thousand t – from Canada and 6.0 thousand t – from the USA.

Supplies of Russian wheat was not carried out since the end of November 2016. Since the beginning of this year, South Africa imported only the Argentine and Polish wheat.

According to the forecasts of the USDA, for the entire season, South Africa imports no more than 1.7 million tons of wheat, which is 29% less than in 2015/16. The need for imports has declined due to the recovery of their own crops. According to estimates of the USDA, this season of Africa gathered 1,876 million tons of wheat, far more than in the dry last season to 1.44 million tonnes.
