The Kenya government announces the abolition of customs duties upon import of grain, corn and wheat, to bring down food prices and to contain inflation.

The importation of maize would be 50% duty for the next four months, during which will be a harvest. In addition, importers of bread and wheat do not have to pay VAT equal to 16%.

Last year's drought led to a shortage of grain on the domestic market and higher prices for food. The cost of the bag (90 kg) of maize reached a record level of 4,200 shillings.
