The Syrian government increased the minimum guaranteed purchase price of wheat from local farmers by 12% – up to 140 pounds ($0,27) per 1 kg.

Note that from December 2016 procurement price of wheat in the domestic market accounted for 125 Syrian pounds per 1 kg ($0,24).

Recall that in 2016 the General destabilization of the economic situation in Syria as a result of prolonged military conflict in the country, as well as adverse weather conditions led to a reduction in domestic wheat production to 1.3 million tons – the lowest level in the last 27 years. Thus, according to the Syrian government, to the state Fund from the specified volume was purchased only 400 thousand tons of grain.
