The lag is mainly due to the Volga region, where threshed only 1.9 million hectares (55%) against 2.9 million ha (86%) last year. A significant part of areas in the region may remain unharvested. In part, this may be offset by harvesting in the spring provided a favorable winter.
 
Against this background, "Sovekon" has reduced the forecast of sunflower harvest in Russia in 2017/18 0.1 million tons to 10.3 million tons against a record 11 million tonnes last year.
 
Against the background of deteriorating species for a new crop in recent weeks started to increase the competition among mills. Last week prices moved to growth after 10 consecutive weeks of losses, strengthening to 16675 RUB/t (EXW European part of Russia, excluding VAT), with 16600 rubles/ton – the lowest level since November 2014. This week, mills continued to gradually raise prices.
