Also, experts have lowered the forecast of grain imports to the country in the current season to 9.4 million tons compared to 10 million tons, according to preliminary estimates.

At the same time, the estimate of corn production in Egypt was increased to 6.4 (+0,4) million tons and the estimate of acreage to 800 (+50) hectares.

However, in 2018/19 MG USDA analysts predict a rise in the consumption of corn in Egypt to 15.9 million tons, which is 3.9% over the current season, due to an expected decline in domestic prices for feed grains in the country due to inflationary pressures. This, in turn, will enhance purchasing power and increase imports of corn in 2018/19 MG to 9.5 million tons.

Ending stocks of corn in Egypt in 2018/19 MG are forecast at 2.36 million tons, which is slightly inferior to the indicator in the season 2017/18 (2.37 million tons).
