Acting Governor of the Vologda region Oleg Kuvshinnikov visited on the eve on the production base of agricultural consumer co-operative "Ustyuzhensky potatoes".

According to the press service of the regional government, a cooperative was established in the village of Nikola in July 2009 to join efforts for potato production, rendering of services for the purchase quality seeds, fertilizers, plant protection means, organization of seminars held jointly with representatives of leading research institutes, the study of markets and assistance in the implementation of ware potatoes.

In accordance with the objective of ensuring the country's domestic high-quality seeds of vegetables, the government of the Russian Federation, attention cooperative farms on cultivation of high-quality seed potatoes. This work is conducted in close cooperation with the State scientific institution all-Russian research Institute of potato farms them. A. Lorch, Scientific-practical centre of National Academy of Sciences on potato growing and vegetable-growing of the Republic of Belarus, the canadian company "McCain", German company "FAC" and the German-gollandskoi company "h-z-p-C Sudokus".

On behalf of the head of the region on the basis SPSS "Ustyuzhensky potato" by the Department of agriculture of the Commission on the organization of the zone of seed potatoes in Ostozhenka area. According to Oleg Kuvshynnykova, it is necessary in connection with the growing export of low-quality seed material from abroad, increased private sector demand for varieties Russian breeding, as well as the inability of the farms, occupying with production of potatoes, to compete with the large producers because of the high cost of seed material.

"Ustyuzhenskoe growers are the leaders in the Russian Federation on creation of closed phytosanitary zones for production of original and seed potatoes, which is successfully realized not only in the Vologda region, but also beyond. Our region can rightfully occupy the leading position in the production of high-quality elite material potatoes, - said acting Governor. - Ustyuzhensky potatoes should become a recognized brand in our region, as "Vologda butter".

For today in structure of the agro-industrial complex Ustiinskogo area includes 12 agricultural organizations and about 40 peasant (farmer) farms, producing potatoes. In 2014, in accordance with the instructions of the head of the region about creating logistics centres in Ostozhenka district, it is planned to start in operation 6 of potato new generation. By the way, according to the producers themselves, Vologda region can take up to 10% of the Russian market of seed potatoes.
