The Finnish national trade organization, internationalization and investment development Finpro start the process of finding new markets for Finnish goods that fall under embargo from Russia. This is stated in the message of the organization.

In September she starts a program aimed at expansion of Finnish exports.

"Russia imposed an embargo emphasizes the need to expand the number of export markets for our companies", - said the representative of Finpro on food products ESA Rank.

According to him, the program takes into account the changed situation with exports to Russia. "Of course, it still remains an important area for Finnish food sales. Now more than half of our exports are concentrated in four countries - Russia, Sweden, Estonia and Germany", - said the representative of Finpro. He added that the programme addresses the opportunities for increasing exports in the Baltic sea region and new markets, primarily in Asia.

Russia is a major trading partner of Finland since 2007, last year the volume of exports of Finnish food in Russia has reached 400 million euros. This year this figure has continued to increase: according to custom, for the first 5 months it amounted to 170 million euros, an increase of at least 5% compared to the same period last year.

In January-may exports of meat products amounted to 4 million euros, which is a third more than in the same period of 2013. Exports of dairy products increased by 24% and amounted to 24 million euros, cheese - by 9% to EUR 55 million.

August 7, Russia announced a complete ban on the export of beef, pork, vegetables and fruits, poultry, fish, cheese, milk and dairy products from the EU countries, Australia, Canada, Norway and the USA. This decision was a response to the sanctions that the West has imposed against Russia because of the events in Ukraine.
