According to TASS, the Ministry of agriculture of Russia has asked the Federal Antimonopoly service (FAS) to analyze the situation with the increase in sugar prices on the Russian market. The appropriate letter to the Minister Nikolai Fyodorov wrote to the head of FAS Igor Artemyev.

"The Minister expressed serious concern about the significant increase in the gap between wholesale and consumer prices for sugar, which, according to experts, caused by higher trade margins organizations, leading retail trade", - stated in the message.

According to Rosstat, the growth of consumer prices for sugar for December 2014 to the same period of 2013 amounted to 40%, reminded the Ministry of agriculture.
The import of white sugar in Russia in January-November 2014 rose 3.7 times to 261 thousand tons compared to January-November 2013, to the materials of the Federal customs service (FCS) of the Russian Federation. The value of imports of white sugar during this period increased almost 4-fold to $165,5 million

The increase was mainly due to increased supply of sugar to Russia from the CIS 13 times to 213 thousand tons in bulk and 16-fold to $140 million in money terms in January-November 2014, according to the TCF.

Delivery of raw sugar in Russia during this period also increased by 33% to 558 thousand tons in physical terms and by 15% to $237 million in cash during the first 11 months of 2014.

Previously TASS was told that, despite the increased supply of sugar to Russia, Federal state statistics service (Rosstat) reported faster growth of prices for this product in retail from November 2014. In September and October 2014, the price of sugar in the retail sector declined by 4% and 3% respectively against the previous month 2014. In November, the increase in sugar prices has accelerated to 8.4% compared to October 2014.

The cost of this product in retail in November 2014 vs November 2013 grew by 20.7% and on 1 December 2014 she was 39.7 rubles per kg in December increased the number of consumer complaints on the rise in sugar prices received on the hotline of the Federal Antimonopoly service (FAS).
